Dear reader,
I’m trying to cling on to things that I like in this bleak midwinter that is February Some bright spots include:
Games
Balatro: it’s popular for a reason; it’s basically weird poker and I’m surprised I like it
A word of warning: The background is a fairly psychedelic-looking swirl behind the main card playing area, so please be aware if you may have difficulty with swirling, psychedelic visuals!
Ballionaire: basically pachinko, but a little in a similar vein to Balatro or Peglin; I’m currently a little obsessed
A word of warning: When you get certain achievements or on the lose screen, there are some psychedelic visuals, so please be aware if you may have difficulty with swirling, psychedelic visuals!
Infinity Nikki: I’m currently obsessed; this is essentially an open world adventure game focused on discovering or crafting new outfits; the vibes of this game are basically the old school Barbie movies meets the open world exploration of Genshin Impact
Tiny Glade: the absolute **cutest** tiny fantasy building sim
Dungeon Clawler: I love this game; instead of a roguelike deck builder, it’s a roguelike claw machine dungeon crawler that feels a little reminiscent of Slay the Spire, but you play as different bunnies using a claw machine to generate your items instead of a typical deck builder
Music
Dreams, The Chain by Fleetwood Mac (old favorites): dreamy ‘70s Stevie Nicks vocals; simultaneously great for working out, chilling, or getting stuff done
The Teacup game soundtrack: the cutest soundtrack for the cutest game I’ve ever played
My Way by SIAMES, Barbie Williams (my #1 song of 2024): an all-around just solid song; it’s both great to get motivated but also to belt out to let out some steam (man, that was just full of idioms!)
Where Did the Party Go? by Fall Out Boy (old favorite): this song has been feeling reminiscent of getting older to me, partly because 1) it feels like you’re an adult and life is not a party, so where did the “party” (younger, more carefree days) go? and partly because 2) I used to listen to Fall Out Boy as a teenager and find their music meaningful in a different way now
Brave New World by Kalandra (new favorite): this song is just beautiful and frankly sounds like it came straight out of a fantasy or epic
HOT TO GO! by Chappell Roan: I know this song has been everywhere because it’s so fun, but I do genuinely just do get all happy when I hear the beat
A TV Show Called Earth by Philip Labes: this is a quirky, somewhat sweet song; I typically like listening to it either later at night or early in the morning when there isn’t much light because the song is really soft and I feel like it should be listened to in soft lighting
Death by White Lies (old favorite): I think it’s the great beat, but this song makes me happy even though the lyrics are not particularly happy
Food
Chicken Spaghetti from Budget Bytes: delightful and filling spaghetti casserole; one of my favorites
Assorted
Half my bangs and a strand of my hair are now pink!
I have successfully (more or less) sewed two full garments (shirt and skirt) for myself to start out the year! The seams look terrible, but the top and skirt are wearable and fit me!
I will need to do a lot of adjusting so they actually look good unfortunately, but they exist and that’s better than nothing!
I’m writing some posts here again! Whoo!
I’ve done a bit more creative writing and art recently, though not as much as I’d like.
I made chocolate chip zucchini bread yesterday! (That’s always a plus!)
Hope everyone has a nice rest of your day. I hope you stay safe and cozy!
Best,
Olivia
