#1 A Handbook for Existing in Adulthood Series: Introduction
An introduction to tips and how-tos for adult life
Dear reader,
Various interactions with people in my personal life have made me think that sharing some options, tips, tricks, and such might be helpful to put out into the world. I get asked often about how to do things because I’ve learned how to do a lot of things over the years.
I’m starting this series to share options that my husband and I used to do or still do to this day that make our lives more cost-effective and stretch our resources further.
These may not work for everyone, but maybe some things will be a good fit for someone else. I know there’s not a one-size-fits-all way to live life, nor should there be! My goal is not to tell anyone what they should do, as that is absolutely not my place nor anyone’s place to tell you how to live your own life!
These are things that I have personally found to be helpful practices when money has been tight or when trying to be more sustainable with our resources long-term. If you find something that resonates with you, please take it with you. If not, leave it here.
These are some life skills I’ve learned since becoming a full-fledged adult. I know there’s not a handbook for being an adult and it’s a struggle basically always, so I’m putting this out into the world as an attempt to help people struggle maybe a little less with the basics of living an adult life.
Whether you’re new to this whole being a grown-up thing or maybe you crossed that threshold years ago, I hope this might be of some help to whoever reads it.
This series will be full of life hacks, tips, recipes, ideas, how-tos, and personal examples from my own experience. Take a look through and take what you think seems useful to you!
I’m sure I’ll go into too much detail for a lot of things. So if you don’t want to go full how-to-cook mode, I’d like to have pieces for making simple, cost-effective food with a pressure cooker, microwave, or oven instead. My plan is to have related reading recommendations as well, such as You Gotta Eat: Real-Life Strategies for Feeding Yourself When Cooking Feels Impossible by Margaret Eby. (I read this in June and loved it!)
Vision of this Series
My plan is to break the series into several main categories in which I cover various topics:
I. Food, Cooking
Examples: basic recipes, ingredient substitutions, kitchen techniques, etc.
II. Groceries, Shopping
Examples: pricing comparisons, bulk buying, sustainable resources, etc.
III. Fun, Entertainment, Exercise
Examples: cost-effective activities, free things to do, etc.
IV. Assorted ‘Round the House Tidbits, Self Care
Examples: how to clean a shower, making a sugar scrub, etc.
V. Assorted Life and Style Tips, How-Tos
Examples: how to style an outfit, etc.
I’ll be posting this series occasionally. I plan to intermix it in with all the other random series of posts I do, so don’t be worried if you’re not interested in this series. I hope this will be helpful and interesting!
Until next time,
Olivia
